The Real Limit of Built-in Thermal Protection
The embedded thermal protector cuts off power when motor winding temperature rises to critical value to prevent motor burnout. But it has two major limitations:
- Response delay. If condenser is heavily clogged or outdoor fan fails, temperature spikes rapidly. The protector may not react fast enough, winding insulation can still be damaged. It is a last-resort safety device, not a substitute for proper system design.
- It protects the motor winding, NOT the pump set. Oil return shortage, liquid slugging and rotor friction damage will not trigger thermal trip. The compressor can suffer mechanical wear and seizure even without overheat shutdown.
